All About Falvo's Flights

There is nothing that I love more than a visit to a lovely restaurant with great food and good wine.  It's how I spend most of my nights out with my husband and where many of my best memories are made.  We are fortunate to live in Austin, which has a restaurant scene that is rapidly growing and increasingly recognized around the world.  But, we also love to explore the world, and typically weeks of trip preparation involve my research into the best places to eat and drink once we reach our destination.  For years, I posted reviews of restaurants and wineries on public forums, and I eventually thought I should share on my own website.  Then, in 2015, I began to study with the Court of Master Sommeliers, becoming a certified sommelier in 2016.  Hopefully, this education will allow me to share a bit of the wine knowledge that I have gained in a way that makes it easy for you to appreciate the fascinating and endless universe of wine.  I hope you enjoy my little slice of the world of wine and food.

Who Am I?

Hi, I'm Heather, and I am a  certified sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers.  I love to drink wine, travel and eat.

As a little girl, I spent many hours in the kitchen with my Italian grandparents learning how to prepare and appreciate fine food. I was schooled very early on how to make a proper Italian meatball and how to roll out cookie dough to make little Italian treats during the holidays.  My passion for good food continues with home cooking  and frequent patronage of restaurants all around Austin and on my travels.  I caught the travel bug  as a teenager when I was fortunate enough to fly free on the former Continental Airlines since my Mom was an employee in there in the 1990's. I began exploring wine regions in 2006 with a bike tour of Burgundy.  As a novice cyclist, this was no small feat. Since then, I have explored numerous wine regions in the US and Europe.

In 2015, I discovered the Court of Master Sommeliers and TexSom and began my wine studies in earnest.  I passed the Introductory Sommelier Exam in 2015 and then the certified exam in 2016.  Along the way, I have met and been mentored by numerous sommeliers and restaurant professionals in Austin and am I ever grateful for their help.
