We discovered this Botani Old Vines Moscatel at G’Raj Mahal and paired it last night with a spicy clam sauce pasta and melon and prosciutto. This is a fascinating, fully dry Moscatel from Malaga. The nose reminded me of the pink plastic container of facial powder with a big puff inside that my grandmother had on her dressing table. It’s super flowery and has a bit of a talc feel on the palate. Perfume, lime blossom, mandarin orange and peach burst at the front and it finishes with the slightest bit of phenolic bitterness. It was a good match to the red pepper flakes in the pasta and the fatty prosciutto wrapped around the mildly sweet melon. ???
