I first met these luscious Texas whites at Texsom courtesy of Matt McGinnis and Mike McHenry, owner of Wedding Oak wine. I fell in love pronto. I’m a sucker for a Rhône white and you couldn’t make me happier than to give me a gorgeous full bodied Roussane and tell me that it’s from Texas. Wedding Oak shines with their whites thanks to Texas terroir and Penny Adams, a True Texas winemaker. We acquired both the 2016 Roussane and Viognier at the tail end of the Texas Wines Come to New York event at Rouge Tomate in Chelsea. It was the Viognier, of the many wines we acquired that evening, that made it into our suitcase for the trip back to Texas. While the Roussane is rich and weighty, the Viognier snaps with acidity and pleases the palate with notes of white flowers, apples and citrus. I can’t wait to pop this bottle open on the first day of spring while dining on the porch. Perhaps paired with scallops in a citrus buerre blanc. Cheers!
