Exploring Playa Penca during the “magic hour.” Playa Penca is often noted as one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica, and I can now say that we agree. Wet season in Costa Rica can be a challenge for the visitor, but Guanacaste province is the most arid region, allowing for exploration and fun during most months. Playa Penca lies between Playa Potrero to the south and Playa Prieto to the north. While accessible by car, we chose to scramble around the rocky volcanic point from Playa Potrero which can only be done at low tide. It was well worth the short trip to see this gorgeous beach of white and “coffee” sand.
